TIMES MOJOKERTO, JAKARTA – An old bunker was found under Masjid Kuno Kampung Wanantara, Kubang, Talun, Cirebon, West Java. This bunker was a hiding place for the local during colonialism.
Its completely burried under the mosque. It 7 meters long and 180 centimeters high. Before, the bunker is longer than it is now. But for some reason they have to cut it down left a little part of it.
"The locals including some religious leader, the students, and the locals hid in this bunker to run away from the Dutch," Muhammad Tama, a local public figure said.
The mosque itself also become one interesting building that has been established since the colonialism. Both the mosque and the bunker remain still for all this time.
This bunker as well the mosque tells the story of how the locals live back then. As it is for now the local use it to have some private moment with their God.
Both the mosque and the bunker has been dealing with a little renovation. But the main building and the design still the same.
"This bunker is a living proof for how they spread Islam back then, It shows how the local community must to survive from the Dutch by that time," Tama of Cirebon said. (*)
